According to the folks interviewed, residents could hold a ping-pong tournament on this island and Prairie Village could care less. So what is it about a fire pit? Could Prairie Village possibly be a member of ICLEI? Well DUH!!

A little harder to find now cuz ICLEI has learned listing membership is bad for membership. But as of July 2013 we found this http://downtowncary.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Member-List-ICLEI-USA-7-3-2013.jpg You’ll notice Kansas has 2 counties and 3 cities including Prairie Village.

We already know just how deep in denial Johnson County has been involved so we looked at Prairie Village for a change. Here is a small sample of what we found http://pvkansas.com/index.aspx?recordid=279&page=31

Prairie Village Honored at MARC’s 2011 Sustainable Success Stories Event
Posted Date:12/5/2011

Geothermal Well Drilling

Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) selected Prairie Village’s geothermal project as one of 7 honorees to present at this year’s Sustainable Success Stories Event on December 2.

Prairie Village is the first city in Johnson County to use geothermal energy in its municipal complex, which includes City Hall, the Police Department and the Community Center. Using geothermal energy benefits the local environment by substantially reducing the City’s carbon footprint. It is also fiscally sustainable – the City is estimated to save $45,000 in annual energy reductions, with a total estimated savings of $53,500. To install geothermal energy and implement energy conservation measures in the municipal complex cost a total of $1,290,924, with $400,000 of that amount provided from energy grants.

MARC worked jointly with 4A Collaborative (an organization representing allied planning and design professionals in the metro area), along with Regional Energy Efficiency and Conservation Steering committee, to facilitate a panel of nine professionals who chose seven of the 25 submittals to be honored at this year’s Sustainable Success Stories Event. The honorees were chosen for guiding sustainable regional planning and development.

Now we ben purdy cleer bout not bein the sharpest tool in dar shed. Butt ifin i takes $1,290,924 and makes 45,000 piles of dollars eyes gets me 28.7 piles.

So using FREE money Prairie Village (aka ICLEI, MARC) support and HONOR a 28.7 year ROI (Return on Investment) as a good use of public funds.

Kind of makes you wonder/wander about a smoky fire pit huh? Stepping in one would certainly lead to more carbon foot prints.  And could lead to this.
